Q&A round
Podcast website links: the questions hosts ask
Podcast sites are quiet places for links. Episodes age slowly, guests have names people search, and a show-notes page can keep working for years after the audio goes out.

Twelve worries, answered one by one
Is it sensible to buy organic backlinks for a podcast with a tiny audience?
It can be, if the show has pages worth finding. Search brings strangers to an episode only when the page ranks, and a link helps with that. A show with ten episodes and no transcripts has better things to fix first.
Which page should the link point at?
Point at a guest page or an episode page with a transcript, not the homepage. Those pages answer specific searches such as a name plus the word interview, and they are the places where one extra link might change a result.
Does a link from a music or film site help a podcast about food?
Less than a food site would. Relevance matters because the words around the link tell Google what your page is about. Filter the catalogue by niche, then widen to general culture sites only when the narrow list runs out.
How many links should one episode get?
Usually one or two. Podcast pages rarely need more, and a flurry of links to a single episode looks stranger than the episode deserves. Save the rest of the budget for the next guest page.
Can the placement be written in a conversational style?
Yes. Use your own prompt mode and describe the tone, or write the article yourself. Automatic mode produces a clean, neutral piece with one link to your page, which is fine for supporting links.
Will Spotify or Apple Podcasts rankings change?
No. Podcast apps rank by their own signals, such as downloads and ratings. Links influence ordinary web search results for your show-notes pages, which is a different list entirely.
Should I check my own page speed first?
Yes. Test the page in PageSpeed Insights. A mobile score near 70 is workable for a content site, though embedded players often drag it down, so lazy-load the player below the first screen.
What does a placement cost?
From $1 up to about $500 per link, depending on the donor. Many podcast sites spend $10 to $30 per placement on small culture domains. Price follows authority, traffic and niche.
How do I know the link arrived?
Open ordered links to see the status of each order, then visit the donor page. For a wider check, Search Console shows new linking sites over several weeks, though its report always lags.
Do I need to disclose that I bought the link?
Rules on paid links vary by country and platform, and sponsored content often carries a label. Check the advertising guidance where you publish and where you live, and ask a lawyer if the stakes are high.
Can I use this for a network of shows?
Yes, as long as each show has its own pages and its own audience. Use separate baskets, keep the donor lists different, and avoid pointing every show at the same site.
What if I want income from the site, not just rankings?
Rankings are the cheap part. Sponsors pay for audience and fit, and AdSense on a small podcast site earns very little. Treat links as one tool for a discoverable archive, not as a revenue plan.
A slower clock than music
Podcasts reward patience. A music review has a window of weeks, but an interview with a well-known guest can draw search traffic for years, so one steady link every month usually beats a burst.
Plan around guest announcements. When a guest releases a book, a film or a record, searches for their name rise, and your episode page can ride that moment if a link is already in place. Our release-week plan shows the same idea for albums.
Before the first podcast order
- Each episode page has a title, a description and a transcript or a long summary
- The embedded player loads below the first screen
- The guest's name appears in the heading and in the opening line
- You have set aside a budget, for example $30 for one guest page, and not for the whole season
- You know the other pages you will link internally, such as the budget breakdown
