From basket to live link: an order, step by step

Orders feel mysterious until you have placed one. This is the whole route for a review blogger, with the screens you will see and the checks worth making afterwards.

Seven stops on the route

  1. 1

Log in and open the marketplace

Sign in at the account page and go to the marketplace, where donor domains are listed as rows with their numbers.

  2. 2

    Set filters before you scroll

Choose niche, language, a Domain Rating range, a traffic floor and a price ceiling. A narrow list is easier to judge than a long one.

  3. 3

    Add rows to the basket

Adding costs nothing. Open a few donors, drop the likely ones in, and delete any that look off once the list is side by side.

  4. 4

Choose a content mode for every row

Automatic wants a target URL and a keyword. Prompt mode takes your instructions, and the third mode takes your own finished article.

  5. 5

    Review the basket

Check the total, the target pages and the keywords. A typo in a URL is the commonest mistake, and it costs real money.

  6. 6

    Pay from your balance

Top up in the dashboard first. Invoices and proforma invoices are available if a label or employer needs paperwork.

  7. 7

    Track it in ordered links

Each order shows a status. Most placements go live within about 24 hours of payment.

A hypothetical order, with invented numbers

Take an imagined podcast review site called Third Row Seats. The owner wants a link to a recent interview page and sets a ceiling of $18 per row.

After filtering for entertainment sites in English, eleven rows remain. Four sit above the ceiling, three have almost no traffic, and four make it to the basket for a total of $59.

Two orders use automatic mode. One uses a prompt asking for a short feature on audio interviews, and one uses an article the owner wrote about the guest.

None of this is a prediction. It only shows the shape of a small, careful order.

When you are ready to plan the next order, read the competitor decision tree and the release plan.

The free checks

Before paying, open the target URL in a private window and look at it as a stranger would. If it asks for a login, redirects, or shows an error, fix that first.

Things that slow an order down

Target URLs with tracking parameters cause trouble. Strip them, and use the clean address that appears in your browser when you copy the canonical link.

Keywords that are too long produce clumsy anchors. Two or three words read better than a full sentence, and they sound more like a human wrote them.

Changing your mind after payment is harder than before it. Use the basket as a staging area, and keep tinkering until the total and the targets look right. Our budget page gives sensible totals.

Finally, keep the confirmation emails and the proforma invoice if your outlet reimburses expenses. A tidy paper trail takes five minutes now and saves an awkward conversation with an editor later.

How to check for backlinks once an order is live

  • Open ordered links and confirm the status reads as live
  • Visit the donor page and look for your link, with the right anchor and the right target
  • Look for dofollow in the page source, where no nofollow attribute should sit on the link
  • Add the date and URL to a notes sheet
  • Revisit Search Console after a few weeks, because its link report lags
  • Compare with Ahrefs or Semrush data if you use either, remembering that their indexes lag too
